One Way Ticket: A Poem for Travel
I tried my hand at poetry. I was inspired to write this one while on a plane to Seattle last week. Travel, this one is for you:
Hop, skip, pouchy do, here we go, you day dreaming kangaroo
your minds’ escaped sitting on the loo.
Grab a Fodors, Here we come…
You elongate time and elucidate our minds
I sense it now, a bevy of wonder and endless fine dines
You bring us back to history and help define time
You put us on a beach, with a margarita and lime.
You find us hills to mount, and hotels to peruse
Delicious local fare to enjoy, and windows to muse.
We say farewell to the familiar and welcome the strange
You are a gift to our minds to avoid becoming deranged.
The work day can wait, for your only young once
So find time for me darling, or else you’re a dunce.
You’ll have smells unforeseen and drinks unabashed
You’ll meet people ill-advised and find streets full of trash
But you’ll find diamonds in the rough, if you search long enough
Don’t spend too much time dreaming or it’ll be gone in a puff!
Oh the places well go, doctor Seuss had it right
You must give it a try, the attempts won’t be trite
Oh travel my boy, the worlds made just for you
Throw a dart on the map or pick from a shoe
But seek it out quick or the excuses will mount
The time is now for a European jaunt
Or grab a rice paddy, a straw hat of Tibetan wool
Or a leopard skin Leo or a seafarers hull
But whatever you do, don’t not do
Take some action and get off the loo
A fancy old ruse or a weighty allure?
A dance with your passport is the only real cure
